Thread: It's July, which means it's time to spend two months debating if I should apply to medical schools in the Caribbean.
This has been a yearly debate, since 2014, when I went to college to get my EMT ticket and discovered to my astonishment, at the age of 34, that I'm really fucking smart. Surprise! You're not a moron!
I specify Caribbean med schools because smart or not, no med school in the US would ever let me in and anyway, I like islands and beaches and tropical drinks.
So I mentioned it to Stone and instead of the usual "you're too old and you'll be the dumbest person there" I got "why not? You'd be a great Doctor!"
I stared at him for a while, jaw agape, flies buzzing in and out of my mouth.
"I could get a boat. Spend my days fishing. You want to take the kid overseas for high school anyway. Maybe they need an adjunct physics professor" He continued.
I sat there befuddled, lukewarm Miller High Life in my left hand, silently inspecting his face for signs of a stroke or other CVA.
"Do some comparison shopping, figure out which one is the best that you stand a chance of getting into, and apply. I'm willing to consider it, and we can afford it"- Said the alien creature that has taken over my husband's body.
I don't know if he's calling my bluff, or betting that the time it would take me to get an MD and complete residency would mean at least 8 years of me not doing Motorsport, which he hates.
Or maybe retirement has been good for him, and we really are at the point in this marriage where my career takes priority. Stay tuned, Fam.
