How is Victorious rated G? A thread.
I loved watching victorious when I was younger, and I especially love watching it today. I've watched all three seasons 2 times since quarantine started, and as I've been rewatching it... I've started to question its rating.
Of course, almost all kids shows contain adult jokes for the parents to enjoy, but they are expected to fly past children's heads. However... some of the dialog and situations in Victorious really make me wonder why this show isn't rated PG...
Exhibit A: the talk of breasts. First, in season one, cat takes her bra to jade and tori and says she dropped it in the toilet. Tori squeezes the water out. TBH, this is pretty tame to me. It's just a bra.
Bras are mentioned again and again in the show, mainly when talking about how cat keeps candy in hers.
Another mention of breasts in the show was when jade "can't fit her BOOBS in the hamburger." This was an exact line that Cat said, referring to a costume. When getting into the same costume later, Trina said "how did jade fit her BOOBS in the hamburger?"
Should a rated G show aired on Nickelodeon really be talking about bras and boobs so frequently 🤔
Exhibit B: Talk of suicide/dying. This is mainly done by Jade. She often talks about extremely graphic ways that she wants to hurt or kill people. She has said she will "pop cat's head like a zit." I vaguely remember her saying, "Kill me now" before, but I'm not 100% sure.
On the topic of Jade, she is an extremely poor role model for young children who may be watching the show and her insults can sometimes be out of line...
Anyways, back to the topic of suicide, one of the moments that inspired me to make this thread was when Cat's personal cotton candy machine man said "Kill me with a rock." 😳
Exhibit C: The characters partake in illegal activies and rarely face the consequences of them. If I could name all the examples of this, it would turn into a thread of me explaining every single episode. So I'll just give a few.
Ok jade, I'll get to the point 🤣🤣. Remember when Trina bought the illegal pooka fish? I actually didn't think this was all that bad, because they showed the consequences of them getting sick and being in the hospital.
Calm down Jade 😅😅. Ok, remember when they broke into a store after hours? And they just ran away and never got in trouble for it? Remember when they literally SAT A HOUSE ON FIRE and tori was just telling cat to never mention it again? 😳
Exhibit D: The lyrics to "Take a Hint" ... I'm just gonna write these out. "You think that we should HOOK UP... I'm just tryna be polite but it always seems to bite me in the .... get your hands off my... before I punch you in the... stop you're staring at my..."
"No you can't buy me a DRINK."
Exhibit E: The Breakfast Club episode... I could make an entire thread just unpacking this single episode... Out of all my other exhibits... this one just takes the cake...
This episode was weird and uncomfortable to watch when I was younger, and even MORE weird and uncomfortable to watch after I've seen the breakfast club. This episode SOLEY contains references to $€x and drugs.
The conversations in this episode are just soooo uncomfortable and unnatural. They replaced the words "virgin" with "vegan" and "weed" with "hot sauce" or "tacos" . I mean the characters are literally acting high...
I don't know WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND thought it would be a good idea to recreate a rated R movie about kids in detention who smoke weed and talk about $€x into an episode of a rated G show made for children......
I really can't even put into words how unsettling and creepy this episode is.. you're just gonna have to watch it for yourself. END OF THREAD.
What do you guys think 🤔 should the show be rated G? Personally, I think it should be rated PG. It's still obviously a kids show and they never cuss or anything, but because of the points mentioned above... I think a G rating is a little too light...
