The GOP tax bill that was passed in 2017 was specifically for the benefit of the rich, thus not "putting America first", and here's why: (see thread) https://twitter.com/DonaldJTrumpJr/status/1278663464458899458
-There are 7 tax brackets, and the first bracket for taxable income, which represents people making between $0 and $9,700 a year, did not lower at all. It was 10% in 2017 and remained 10% after the bill was passed.
-The second bracket lowered the taxable income rate from 15% to 12%. The third went from 25% to 22%, the fourth from 28% to 24%, the fifth from 33% to 32%, the sixth from between 33% and 35% to 35%, and the seventh from 39.6% to 37%.
-(And btw the taxable income rates for seventh bracket, which represents people making $500,000+ per year, got lowered). 🤦‍♀️
-So yes, while taxable income rates were technically lowered for the middle class, this bill also provided a massive tax cut for big businesses in America.
-Starting in January 2018 corporations tax rates fell from 35% to 21%. IT WAS LITERALLY LOWERED MORE THAN THE TAXABLE INCOME RATES IN ALL 7 TAX BRACKETS COMBINED.
-This will result in a $1 trillion dollar tax cut for businesses in the next decade.
-The business tax cuts are permanent, while the individual tax cuts will expire after 2025 unless they are renewed.
-Will he actually keep this promise? I don't know.
But I would rather take my chances with him than with Trump who specifically said during his campaign that he would cut taxes for the middle class and raise them for the wealthy.
