An annoying tic of our pandemic discourse is people talking like it’s a thing just happening in the US. “The media overhyped it...because, Trump!” “The media came out hard against hydroxychlorquine...because Trump!” As if other countries aren’t experiencing the same thing. So... https://twitter.com/redsteeze/status/1279036284007141377
...you can believe there are real problems & concerns about hydroxychloroquine as a therapy for covid, which is why no industrialized country with a modern health care system has it in widespread use. Or you can say “...but, the media!”
Wanted to get excited about the reported results from this most recent hydroxychloroquine headline? Ok, but be cautious. The results and the construct of the research don’t say what the headlines are implying.

Months into the pandemic hydroxycholoroquine is not in widespread use & there has been a long litany of concerns & issues raised over those months (well aside from monster fumble of the reported Lancet study). I kept a running tally of it in this thread:

Maybe we’ll find out from a full & proper clinical study hydroxychloroquine works, or works in combination with another drug, including for a very specific set of patients in the hospital (as this latest research may indicate). More effective treatments for covid would be great.
In the meantime, our discourse on this is dumb. Maybe the media did overhype a, uh, deadly global pandemic that shutdown the world, as well as downplay hydroxychloroquine...because the science didn’t support it.

Or maybe Trump is an incompetent blowhard. One of the two.
