do you ever come to the realization that sonic as a series isnt going to actually develop relationships or characters bc the games aren’t meant to be a continuous storyline & if growth does happen it’s out of sheer luck bc those adjustments were made simply for business purposes?
I like my deep sonic lore like anyone else, but I wouldn’t necessarily say their intent with this IP was to tell a single, prolonged narrative. these games were designed to rival mario; to be like fun episodes you can jump into at any point w/out needing to backtrack extensively.
so if you are looking for any prolonged narrative with the potential for character exploration and growth, read the official comics. they’re the closest to it,, or find fan comics and fanfics. fans make a lot of cool content just out of love and passion for the series. it’s dope.
just to clarify, I don’t actually think this is a bad thing. I’m very aware of the business aspect of sonic. many tend to crap on SEGA for “covering their ears,” and if you wanna talk crap about capitalism and how no large corporation is a good corporation? go for it.

however,,
if you’re just spitting on SEGA bc they aren’t writing the sonic game you personally wanna play, then you & I are on completely different pages. I’m making a point, not a revelation.

SEGA isn’t free from criticism but there are a lot of conflicting ideas on what sonic should be.
