imagine at the end of bsd the book is shown to have been the cause for everything and in reality everyone lives normal lives in a normal world. they destroy it, knowing that they may never be able to see each other again, and atsushi wakes up in his apartment back in the real-
-world. he’s bemused, but when his memories return to him he can’t leave his home for days. when he eventually gets the courage and strength to go outside into the world he truly came from, he catches up with his family, his parents, his real parents, and his friends. on the-
-way back to his apartment, he gets on the train, still feeling indescribable grief at having to leave the old world behind, even if he is still happy here and even if it was fake. then, someone taps his shoulder, and he turns around to see an all too familiar face with brown-
-eyes and messy hair. even without the bandages or the tan coat, he immediately recognises the man standing next to him wearing a teary, warm small to be dazai. dazai in the real world as he should be, woken up from the oxidising dream of the old world.
the joy atsushi feels-
the joy atsushi feels-
-is indescribable, and he ends up missing his stop cause of how long they were hugging and laughing at the situation. when they part and step off the train, atsushi comments “it’s strange, not having anymore jobs to help people. i don’t know if i’ll ever get used to this.” dazai-
-smiles, a sad yet hopeful gleam in his eye. “well, we have one more job.” a small part of atsushi knows exactly what his old mentor is going to say, but he asks anyway: “what job is that?”
