I'm an ESG investor. I value companies with strong track records of supporting the environment, social causes, and responsible governance. That's why @tesla is an important part of my responsible investing portfolio. $TSLA /1
Environmental concerns are very important to me. That's why it's excellent that Tesla does everything in their power to ensure they are following all important EPA regulations. /2 https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/us-epa-settles-tesla-over-hazardous-waste-violations-fremont-calif-facility
Sustainability and human rights are also very important to me. That's why in sourcing materials for their batteries, like Cobalt, I can trust Tesla will do so in a responsible way and sourcing from sustainable companies like Glencore. /3 https://www.cnbc.com/2020/06/16/tesla-glencore-cobalt-gigafactory.html
Social concerns are important to me. Tesla is a clear leader in this area by ensuring all workers are valued by creating a safe work environment. /4 https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/30/business/tesla-factory-racism.html
Tesla values diversity so much, that they even make time to recognize important holidays. /5 https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2020/06/elon-musk-juneteenth-spacex-tesla/613330/
Consumer protection is an important aspect of social concerns as well. Customers are extremely valued by Tesla. Open and honest relationships ensure future loyalty. /6 https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tesla-battery/tesla-owner-lawsuit-claims-software-update-fraudulently-cut-battery-capacity-idUSKCN1UY2TW
When Tesla sells a product to a customer, they stand behind it and know it's safe. /7 https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-leaked-emails-show-company-knew-model-s-battery-issues-2020-6
One aspect of ESG investing that doesn't get a lot of attention is the corporate governance concerns. This isn't discussed much, but as an ESG investor it is one of my personal favorites. /8
Management structure is an important aspect of corporate governance. Low executive turnover demonstrates that Tesla has an excellent management structure. /9 https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-executive-departures-list-2018-9
With a balance sheet described as a "fortress" by some other prominent ESG investors, it's excellent that Tesla was able to ensure employee health and safety is their number 1 priority during COVID-19. /10 https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/06/18/tesla-worker-who-criticized-coronavirus-safety-measures-receives-termination-notice/
As part of corporate governance, Tesla does a great job balancing employee and executive compensation. /11 https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/04/02/elon-musks-compensation-at-least-40000-times-bigger-than-median-tesla-worker-report/
When things get hard at the company, I know that Tesla will always do the right thing and ensure employees are taken care of. /12 https://www.forbes.com/sites/hayleycuccinello/2020/05/05/elon-musk-700-million-payday-tesla/#29a2f8e51fff
Finally, being a responsible company means valuing the regulators that ensure other companies are also being responsible. By supporting these regulators and important institutions this ensures that I can do my ESG investing confidently. /13 https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1278764736876773383?s=20
I think it is clear. Tesla is leading the pack, and as an ESG investor, I can't really think of anything I would want changed. H/T to the prominent ESG investors that continue their unquestioning support of everything Tesla does. 14/End
Short shorts don't @ me.
