In a pandemic and recession that is brutally punitive toward mothers specifically, I find it really frustrating to watch childfree people talk about whether “parents” really know what they’re talking about or whether they’re using the right terms to express their frustration.
There are actual material conditions, deeply linked to misogyny & heteronormativity, colliding to push working moms out of the workforce and saddle them with unsustainable amounts of domestic work. I know being childfree comes with stigma, but this is a pressing crisis.
It has rarely been harder to be a woman with kids than it is right now, and we cannot have that discussion if every other sentence has to be reassuring childfree people that We Know It’s Hard For Them Too. It is. It’s not THIS hard. That’s the point.
