I should have figured out I was gay when I was 10 years old and I checked out and read every single Babysitters Club book from my school library.
Yes I am a 20 year old male college student yes I am sitting here watching the Babysitters Club Netflix show we exist
I’m still not over my childhood disappointment of wanting to be a Claudia but knowing deep in my heart that I’m such a Mary Anne
Sad to report that the tween actress who plays Claudia in the show is clearly way cooler at 12 than I will ever be in my entire life
Am I going to live tweet my experience watching this fuck it I guess I will
Why did the way they talked about Stacey being from New York in the books make me think 12 year olds who lived there were like regularly going to the met gala every year
It’s really concerning to me how much of these books I have burned in my brain I regularly forget my aunts and uncles names but I was able to remember that Kristy’s brothers are named Charlie, Sam and David Michael off the top of my head
I love Kristy but in retrospect she has massive girlboss energy all the other members are socialist icons tho
Okay but where is the Vogue fashion shoot of all of the Claudia outfits from the show these looks are fire
Real ones know that Claudia’s grandma Mimi is the only S-tier Babysitters Club character
I forgot how aggressively awful Kristy was to everyone in the first books she’s basically a gritty prestige tv antihero but a 12 year old
Kristy Thomas walked so Walter White could run
Name a worse human being than Karen Brewer you can’t they don’t exist
Claudia going to her school dance dressed as Tippi Hendron in The Birds,,,name a single other person on the planet as iconic
The babysitters club really had me thinking that Stacey was going to drop dead from diabetes before the age of 20
The way they talked about diabetes in the books I think it was meant to be like a kid friendly version of HIV or something
I really appreciate how the show portrays 90 percent of tween and teen boys as total dumbasses
The way I was ready to throw hands with Stacey’s New York best friend Laine when I was like 10
Fuck I’m three episodes in and I’ve already cried watching the babysitters club this is embarrassing
I’m on the Mary Anne Saves the Day episode and fuck I am SUCH a Mary Anne
If you were a Mary Anne you got diagnosed with depression and anxiety like five years later
Okay but why did Mary Anne getting told that she needs to stand up for herself or people will ignore her her whole life,,,why did that cut so deep
The representation of the awkward middle school cafeteria experiences in this show is immaculate
The show has a lot of queer representation but they still haven’t confirmed or denied if Kristy is a lesbian I hate it here
We ALL knew that Kristy was a lesbian, Bart was a masc gay guy, they only flirted because of compulsory heterosexuality, and when they came out in high school they became bffs and a shining example of wlw mlm solidarity!
As a kid I HATED Dawn for reasons I can’t remember (I think I didn’t like people from California?) so I’m stunned to say she’s shaping up to be a top tier club member on the show
The show referencing astrology they really know their audience of gays to pander to
Mary Anne standing up for a trans girl getting misgendered by hospital staff we simply HAVE to stan
Maybe I’m proud to be a Mary Anne what character development from me
I really hate myself for finding so many of the dads on the show attractive
As a kid I could never relate to all the divorce angst the kids went through in the books but now that my parents separated when I was 19 it’s really hitting me different
Kristy getting so jealous over Dawn’s friendship with Mary Anne has intense queer subtext and the show needs to make it explicit !!!
Okay the thing about Claudia and Mean Janine is that it’s literally the Citizen Kane of the Babysitters Club book series
The drama the heartbreak the complex dynamic between sisters literally name a book that did it as well. You can’t it doesn’t exist
Ann M. Martin could write King Lear but Shakespeare couldn’t write Claudia and Mean Janine
I don’t remember Mary Anne being a theater kid in the books but her being one in the show really cements that I am such a Mary Anne
When I tell you I was a Janine stan
I used to get so happy when she popped up in the books I desperately wanted a spin-off that was just about Janine think of the potential!
The book where she had the hot secret boyfriend who treated her like a queen was one of the biggest events of my childhood I was so happy for her
Okay who’s going to win best supporting actress at the Emmys this year and why should it be Momona Tanada as Claudia Kishi
I am so embarrassed that I a) remember that Logan had a southern accent in the books and b) am genuinely offended that he doesn’t have one in the show
Growing up I was very invested in Mary Anne and Logan’s relationship for a reason I didn’t really understand and now I realize it’s because I related hard to Mary Anne and also wanted a boyfriend
Fuck I cried during another episode of the babysitters club I hate myself
All that hype for Little Women should have gone to Claudia and Mean Janine smh
Okay so Claudia and Mean Janine is the best Babysitters Club book but Boy-Crazy Stacey was the most ICONIC book if you know you know
The Babysitters Club is basically a found family which is why queer people loved it I think I cracked the code
Mallory just got introduced on the show which raises the question: am I actually a Mallory?
Being a Mallory is the worst cuz you’re basically just a Mary Anne except even lamer and you’ll never get a boyfriend
The way I thought I read Boy-Crazy Stacey and thought I had a crush on Stacey but I actually had a crush on the lifeguard she was crushing on the internalized homophobia of it all
If you were a Stacy growing up you had a hoe phase later on
I really cannot relate at all to Kristy being pissed off about her mom marrying a guy and getting super rich
Dawn’s mom and Mary Anne’s dad are the only straight couple that matters nobody is doing it like them!!
Adapting one of the longer super special books as a two part season finale is auterism
Do I,, do I actually like Karen in the show? This adaption really is superior
The show is introducing kids to socialism and portraying it positively you simply love to see it
I think you were supposed to find Dawn annoying in the books because she was an activist and an environmentalist and that was kind of seen as lame at the time but nowadays like yeah no that stuffs actually important
The shows’s portrayal of cringy middle school musical theater is immaculate
Okay so I finished and watched the season in one day when is it acceptable to rewatch the entire thing again
Final Babysitter Club member power rankings after absorbing the show:

1) Claudia
2) Mary Anne
3) Dawn
4) Kristy
