People with the most power/job security - professors with tenure - are and absolutely should be advocating for careful approaches - not just for themselves, but for staff and adjuncts and nontenured ppl - don't see ANY of them quoted, btw
It's one thing to open universities. It's another to force people to disclose their health conditions in order to get exemptions from coming to campus and to say that child care is not a valid reason to request to teach remotely!!!
Speaking as a professor, I think I have a healthy level of concern for my own health about going back to school, but I'd maybe okay with it w/good precautions and data. But I'm also much more able to weather a serious illness than others I'd come into contact with.
Young people aren't unaffected, and also, not all college students are in their early 20s! Particularly graduate students, who also may not have any or very good health insurance. So again, ppl with the most power in this system have a responsibility to advocate for all.
