BREAKING: Federal Liberal government and WE Charity are ending a partnership wherein WE would distribute some $900M in federal student grants this summer. The original decision to outsource work to a 3rd-party with ties to Trudeau's family was criticized. http://cbc.ca/1.5636332
Justin Trudeau says the WE Charity chose to withdraw from a partnership with the federal government, and the government supports that decision. He says the government will directly deliver a youth volunteer program, but he believes it's not as well positioned to do so as WE.
Justin Trudeau says he believes the WE charity will be taking some 'time to reflect on its next steps.' Asked if he will continue to personally work with the organization, he says he will keep working with a 'range' of youth-focused organizations.
Justin Trudeau says the WE situation 'unfolded in a way that is truly unfortunate.' He says the government will be reflecting on what went wrong. He says the government will continue to give youth volunteer opportunities, but it will happen 'in a slightly different way.'
