I think a show like Hamilton is not just important to bringing Broadway shows to the mainstream but it is bringing the moat important aspect in entertainment to light.

For a cast that is majority african american, american theater and acting has been outrageously biased towards
african americans.

Even on TV, you dont see many black actors that portray heroes, unless its Will Smith, Michael B. Jordan or Idris Elba.

Keep in mind 2 of those 3 cut their teeth by playing criminals in The Wire, the BEST SHOW THAT EVER EXISTED yet nobody gave it the time
of day.

Blacks are often reduced to playing crooks, thieves and drug dealers.

On stage, its worse.

Example, every black actor dreams of playing Walter Younger in Raisin in the Sun. EVERY MALE BLACK ACTOR.

Even though this character orchestrates his own demise when
he gives up his own family savings for a new life on Clybourne Park to open a liquor store than gets stolen.

As a black stage actor, you dont get many choices in roles. And when you do get cast, you are afraid of reviews like this, which really happened to me
There needs to be a demand in directors and scripts that challenges and encourages black actors to come forward and act.

There isnt so to see Hamilton on Disney Plus is hopefully kicking starting a new generation of black actors to pursue theatre and the arts.
Im not asking people to like the show or hate the show, but for a black actor, this show IS IMPORTANT to drive the conversation forward that african americans have a equal stance on theatre roles and opportunities.

I was turned down by many productions not because I wasnt good
but because I was black and it didnt fit the story.

Thats bullshit.

Complete bullshit.

That needs to end and that needs to change.
