Back on June 30th I hosted a #moon livestream (), during which I captured images. Damn, I love the moon.

This is a thread with those images no particular order.

None was first, but this one’s next:
Plato & Montes Alpes.

Montes Apenninus (a mountain range, ~400km long), and the crater Eratosthenes (~58km wide)

Enjoy pronouncing that right on the first try, suckers!

Right smack in the middle of this image is the Apollo 11 landing site (NO! Telescopes don’t have the resolution to see this, unfortunately).

The bright little crater (Moltke) just above the center, in the “bay”, is 6km wide, for reference.

That big ghost of a massive crater, most of it now gone, is Sinus Iridum, ~236km wide. The edges are a mountain range called Montes Jura.

Those two little island craters in Mare Imbrium out there alone are Le Verrier and Helicon, 20km and 24km.

The famous crater, Copernicus, with its terraced walls and ~93km width, it’s a big one with those cool lines leading away from it (caused by impact debris? I always forget…)

Just above Copernicus is Reinhold and Lansberg, around 40km wide each. They’re deep (~3km!), in comparison to their width.

Just above the crater Lansberg (38km wide), is the really cool looking mountain range called Montes Riphaeus, at 189km “long.”

Speaking of craters like Lansberg, imagine standing on the edge of a hole that's 38km wide and 3.1km deep. Whoa.

Happily nestled in Mare Nubium is the crater Bullialdus, at 60km wide. It’s got a very interesting outie, there! Lots of ghost craters nearby.

The third crater in the “tail” of three above Bullialdus, is König, at 23km wide. I just wanted to use the “ö”.

The massive crater Clavius, at 245km wide, is so big it has it’s own sub-craters. Two of which are Porter (beer!) and Rutherfurd (~50km each).

Below and right is Longomontanus crater, which is a long name. But, it’s also wide, at ~157km. Pronounce it.

I think that’s all of them. I need a beer now.

Cheers to you this Friday! 🍻

Some processing notes on this thread:

1. I OVER-processed these a bit, because the target was for social media, and I wanted to highlight all the detail that was available.

2. Just a reminder that these and all my astro images are free to use for outreach/education/etc.!
