The first day I walk into any classroom (and many times after) I look around & try to figure out how I'll protect/save students if a shooter enters the room. So to say I'm not willing to risk my life for my students would be inaccurate. #COVID19
I work at a University whose mental health services are underfunded & whose student health services are also generally unhelpful. I sit in my office w/students having psychotic breaks. So to say I don't work in an environment where students are at risk wld be inaccurate #COVID19
I was a queer kid who felt scared to live in my hometown, who did not want to go home, who felt college was a lifeline to a place where I could maybe survive. So to say I do not understand how much school means to students for very real reasons would be inaccurate #COVID19
Faculty have much more in common w/students than administrators & legislators making decisions. Which is what @nytimes gets wrong. We're all at the mercy of accelerated capitalism. Students & faculty uniting is the worst nightmare of a system that doesn't care abt us. #COVID19
Articles like the one in @nytimes continue to drive a wedge between students (& their parents) & faculty/staff. The truth is we're the ones at risk, we're the ones in it together, & we're the ones who should be guiding decisions. To say otherwise would be inaccurate. #COVIDー19
I cannot prevent a shooter entering my classroom. I can prevent the spread of #COVIDー19 . To say otherwise would be inaccurate.
