In 2011, India did a Million Death Study: suicide rates in rural areas were found to be about twice as much as those in the cities.

AND THIS ONE IS BIG:

In high income countries 90% of those who die by suicide have a concomitant mental illness.

In India: just about 50%. +
-> Alcohol has a strong correlation with suicides.

-> Alcohol use goes up after economic crises.

-> Economic crises have a strong correlation with suicides.
