There’s something deeper going on in many of those who don’t want to wear masks. Stay with me…(short thread)
Yesterday one of my neighbors said, “You’re gonna think I’m wacky” and then continued by sharing all of the conspiracy theories for the virus and what she sees as a “world order taking over.” It’s at that moment that I realized people are mortified—fearful is an understatement.
We are clinging to anything that will make this moment make sense. It helped me slow down on judgment and have empathy. I love my neighbor and so seeing her eyes and listening to her helped me.
I shared my views in an effort to debunk *some of the theories but we left agreeing to pray and ask the Lord to help everyone. It’s easy to slam the person on the internet, it’s different when you see the fear and uncertainty right in front of your face.
People are scared. We should pray. And I still believe we all need to comply and wear our masks. Wearing masks is a way to love our neighbors--I believe that. But I also have a greater love now for those who are afraid to do so--even if it's unwarranted fear.
