So, I'll stick my head above the parapet on the Joss Whedon thing. Now, I've always largely loved his stuff and I'll be as disappointed as anyone if he turns out to be another sleazeball. 'Unprofessional behaviour' is so vague and could kind of mean anything you want it to mean.
Also, his wife's accusations were also vague, imputations of unsavoury behaviour without detailing specifics. I don't want to defend him too vigorously because the whole thing around Charisma Carpenter's departure from Angel (and frankly all of Dollshouse) still feel kinda off
but at the same time gossipy watercooler insinuations doesn't strike me as good enough either. Part of this is coming from hindsight examinations of the sexual politics of his shows not coming up to the frankly often puritanical ideals of Gen Zers.
There's an almost Stalinist desire to purge the ideological impure and I suspect this is partially the case here. But it's worth remembering that at the time Buffy represented real progress - it's easy to forget how what came before was even worse in many ways.
By today's standards, Buffy Angel, even Firefly, probably seem problematic. And so they should. That's what progressiveness is. We get better. We work through the bullshit and we improve. And Whedon has been instrumental in all of us doing that.
And before we dump on the bonfires of self-righteous cancellation, I'd like to see some - any - substantial evidence for doing so. Because that's also what progressiveness is.
