Why the 2019/20 Premier League season has been one of the worst seasons

Before I start I want to clarify this is in no way a dig at Liverpool as they have been brilliant this season with a great squad and manager and I’m not undermining their achievement

This season arsenal and man united have had their worst squad for years with both sides only starting to pick up form towards the end of the season. Throughout the season both sides have ended up in poor league positions and have had some poor results throughout

Spurs have massively underachieved when many expected them to get top 4 easily following getting to a ucl final and some thought they could be one of three teams challenging for the title

Chelsea have done reasonably well considering the transfer ban and having to rely on youth with an inexperienced manager but they’ve proved the doubters wrong but despite that it has been one of their worst squads alongside man Utd and arsenal for a while

Usually one of the four teams above are challenging for the title but this season have never shown enough to get even close to challenging. Therefore it only left two teams that could potentially challenge for the title

The two challengers from last season were Liverpool and Manchester City however city didn’t challenge all that much due to them never really replacing kompany and their main centre back Laporte getting injured left their defense shaky for the majority of the season

This gave Liverpool the opportunity to extend their gap at the top week after week leaving really no competition, they have been a brilliant side and I’m not knocking the achievement but from a viewers perspective not having a title race made the league less enjoyable

The one bonus for the season was teams such as Burnley and wolves doing very well and Sheffield United and Leicester massively is exceeding everyone’s expectations

One of the main reasons to my point is the fact that coronavirus brought the season to a halt for months, this ruined clubs momentum and having football back without the fans is horrible, this will sadly bring a stain on the season

After all my points my reason for the season being poor is obvious. It hasn’t been competitive at the top but rather the competition has been for the Europa league and final champions league spot and not the premier league trophy

For a large portion of the season there has been no title contender alongside Liverpool and no real title race. I’m not saying Liverpool we’re lucky I’m saying I miss the old title races of the prem such as 2013/14 where it was a four horse race

Well done to Liverpool and congratulations but there is no denying that many teams have been having there worst seasons for a very long time and after all my points that is why I believe the 2019/20 season has been one of the worst
