I'm uncomfortable with how much our economy seems to be based on encouraging endless consumption. I don't like the idea of people being in jobs for jobs' sake. It's all well and good to say "protect jobs", but so many jobs are bullshit jobs, as the book says.
Jobs aren't good in and of themselves, their benefit is what they provide. If a job doesn't provide benefits, it's not a thing to be valued.

Shit. I think I might be about to diverge entirely with the Labour Party if I think further on this principle.
I just want more discussion about the quality of jobs and not the quantity. And about how to maintain living standards when there aren't enough quality jobs to go around.
