We've been here before, but let's go there again.

First off, MOTD saying the Moura handball was "the worst VAR decision yet" is complete nonsense.

There have been FAR worse examples of VAR. At least in this instance it is the correct decision, no matter how much we hate it.
Think of the times the VAR has missed a handball leading to a goal, or given a ridiculously soft penalty, or failed to give a clear penalty.

The worst VAR all season is, most likely, the failure to send off Giovani Lo Celso for Tottenham at Chelsea.

Anyway, onto handball.
Handball law is hated by players, managers, fans, referees, pundits. Universally.

In fact, pretty much everyone apart from the IFAB - who cannot understand what the fuss is about.

The law is not changing in any major way for next season, nor is there a will to rewrite it.
Let's be clear that it is impossible for a VAR, so Michael Oliver for Moura, to apply "common sense" on this black and white law.

If the VAR sees the ball hit the arm and lead to a goal, that is it. I'm not sure why, a year on, this is still "controversial."
The only controversy is that referee Chris Kavanagh, after playing advantage, failed to restart with a free kick to Tottenham for the foul on Moura. He gave Sheff Utd the free kick.

Advantage was cancelled by the disallowed goal, so Spurs should have had the free kick.
The changes to the attacking handball law for next season only clarify when it should be applied. But this would not have impacted on any disallowed goal in the Prem.

Other leagues have had very controversial decisions with goals disallowed for handball back in the move.
What will reduce the number of disallowed goals is the clear definition of what is "handball" on the arm.

We would get back 5-6 goals from this season, but it will be really quite subjective and won't end arguments.

But please note, this doesn't apply until NEXT season.
