Hello! Here's my daily thread on coronavirus stats globally.

Today:

- US: Deaths are now trending up.
- Huge spikes in several states.
- Deaths trending up in TX, FL, AZ, SC.
- UK: đź‘Ť
- More data shows an aggressive response = quick economic recovery.
Big picture: A new record high for cases, globally, now over 200,000 a day.

Deaths remain in an elevated plateau.
The US: Cases still rising steeply toward 60,000 per day.
US: The 7-day average of deaths rose from 560 to 564 yesterday. Is this “the turn” upwards? Or just a blip? Last week deaths were above 600 daily so the track record would say blip. But those cases …
Retail foot traffic begins to turn down again as Americans respond to the crisis.
California: Wow. Another record spike. Now we’re heading up to 10,000 per day.

Deaths are inching up toward the 100 per day level.
Texas: Another high day for cases.

The upward trend in deaths is now persistent.
Florida: Another record high for cases, which are now over 10,000 per day.

The death plateau continues to tick upward as low days get higher.
Georgia: Another big spike in cases as the state head towards 4,000 per day.

Surprisingly, deaths are still in decline.
Arizona: Cases still trending up.

Deaths rising.
South Carolina: Rising new cases have led to rising new deaths.
Brazil: Deaths remain at peak levels.
Russia deaths remain elevated even though cases are declining.
India: A low day for deaths yesterday but probably a blip in the upward trend.
Peru: Deaths remain near their peak.
Chile: Death plateau technically in decline.
UK: Cases are down to 576 per day. Wow. Incredibly low.
UK: Only 89 deaths yesterday and the trend shows every sign of going under 100.
UK: 73,600 weddings have been canceled or postponed because of the coronavirus, according to the ONS.

UK: COVID deaths have fallen to such low levels that the UK is now seeing fewer deaths than average. Good news! [Via ONS]
Mexico: Deaths are dropping off. Good news! (But data is choppy so don’t celebrate yet.]
Iran: Cases still gradually building and that’s driving up the death rate too.
China & South Korea: Economic catchup is quick if government is ready to move quickly and aggressively against the virus. [Via Pantheon]
