what really upsets me about the gra is how trans people act like having to go to a tribunal once, explain that you& #39;re trans, provide your documents, and basically prove that you& #39;re actually trans before you can change your birth certificate is some kind of human rights violation.
do they have any idea what it& #39;s like being disabled in the uk? trans people have to go to one meeting. i have to go to an assessment every single year for some random, underqualified employee to decide if i& #39;m just faking 13 years of debilitating mental health issues.
at these assessments, you& #39;re treated like a criminal. they ask you strange questions to & #39;catch you out& #39;. it& #39;s now standard practice to ask mentally ill people why they haven& #39;t killed themselves. we have to justify still being alive.
my friends and family with physical disabilities are also treated like garbage by these people. i know someone who was declared fit to work while she still needed oxygen to live. a seriously ill 4& #39;11 woman was expected to take her oxygen tank to work.
i& #39;ve been doing this since i was 18, and almost every year, they do decide i& #39;m faking, and i have to spend months appealing the decision. it always gets overturned. there& #39;s a long standing theory that they make commission from turning people down.
every single year, myself and many of the disabled people i know have to go through a traumatising process essentially begging for a yearly allowance of about 50% of minimum wage. some people get less than that. we& #39;re supposed to be greatful, and never complain.
