Since being elected to the NCG 48 hours ago, we had our first NCG meeting yesterday night. The upcoming NEC elections are a top priority and we’re facing a major stitch up from the right. They’ve set a punishing timeline and pushed through STV. (1/7)
We must ensure this stitch up is as ineffective as possible. Unity on the left must be achieved, and the new NCG recognised this and are still committed to sticking to our principles of accountability. This, in reality, means we need a united left slate by 10th July. (2/7)
The timeline is ridiculously short, but we are doing all we can to make the process transparent and keeping members in the loop every step of the way - including naming our negotiators. (3/7)
We explored the options available to us, including OMOV primaries, but the brutal timeline and our inability to run primary  in the 48 hours we have between candidates being named and negotiations mean we have very few viable options to explore this time. (4/7)
Those of us who stood on a platform to ensure we have greater member engagement are disappointed that the energetic and open primaries we led during our Forward Momentum campaign will not be replicated for the NEC elections. I am disappointed also. (5/7)
Our commitment to democracy remains, and over the next two years of our term we will work with members to transform how Momentum works and how candidates are selected, putting in place the member-democracy that our election platform promised. (6/7)
But for now, we must use our fresh and strong mandate to deliver on one of the top priorities for Momentum members: to unite the socialist left and organise a united left slate for the NEC elections. We will do all we can to do deliver this with the days given to us. (7/7)
