Once I went onto r/capitalism with a throwaway account and said my great uncle died in the Soviet Union because he was not given the medications he needed to survive. I was met with sympathy, people said that he had basically been killed, that he was a victim of communism.
A few days later I went back with my real account and told the real story about how my uncle died in America because he couldn’t afford insulin. People said he was lazy and shouldn’t have expected to be handed things, that he should have just worked harder.
Since a lot of people are seeing this, I just kinda want to bring attention to the fact that Alec Smith Emergency Insulin Act, named for another man who died after rationing insulin, went into affect on July 1st, and that same day PhRMA sued the state of Minnesota over it.
The act provides individuals with an emergency 30-day supply of insulin for $35. It could have saved my uncle and many others. PhRMA’s suit alleges that the act violates the 14th Amendment, claiming the state is taking private property for public use without compensation.
This is a blatant example of how the capitalist class values property over human lives.
