Dimitri is a good person who was lost for a while and did bad things. When he was finally able to come back to the light, he vows to spend the rest of his life trying to atone for what he's done and finally lives for what he believes in. Trying to fix his kingdom for the better.
Dimitri watched as his father was beheaded right in front of him, his friend dying to protect him, and COUNTLESS others murdered and burned to death before his eyes.
That is beyond traumatizing. He has since suffered severe survivors guilt and psychosis as a result

Things were getting harder for him. Seeing Remire in flames triggered a flashback and episode of PTSD.
When discovering his step sister, someone whom he had deeply cared for and one of his only living family members, was *working* with the people who caused the tragedy

He broke. He had a psychotic break. His mind was literally so damaged he just. Couldn't anymore.
And it is not his fault.
And then he loses his beloved professor.
Is imprisoned and attempted to be executed by his own kingdom for a crime he did not commit

Dimitri suffers *Complex* PTSD (CPTSD) due to all of the trauma he has been through.
This does not exempt him from his actions. It does not pardon the fact that he did murder and kill. It is an *explanation*

He is not a pyschopath, and he says himself *He* never wanted revenge. He felt it was his duty, as the sole survivor of that day and psychosis causing him to hear his family and friends constantly wailing for revenge so they can finally rest.
Faerghus teaches that those who die with regrets will suffer the eternal flames of hell.
If you had gone through all of this, I GUARANTEE you would have faired any better or even survived.
If you had gone through all of this, I GUARANTEE you would have faired any better or even survived.
He was betrayed by everyone, he could trust no one, and was left alone to fend for himself for 5 years, with only the voices of the dead dictating what he does.
And yet- Dimitri never physically hurts or abuses his friends.
He pushes them all away to keep them away from him because he believes he is a monster. He doesn't want them to be around him. He doesn't want to bring anyone else down his cursed path.

All of his threats are empty. He does not force anyone to stay with him.
Dimitri is a man who has suffered more than anyone I can imagine
And yet people treat him like a demon for things absolutely beyond his control.
Why dont you live his life, and we'll see how well you fair after your brain *literally being rewired

By truama after trauma after trauma.*
Dimitri is a good, caring, compassionate and empathetic and loving person. He is genuine and kind and always puts others before himself. Always. Even if they're the dead. His fatal flaw is empathy. He is so empathetic it destroys him.
His turn around *can* be that fast. (Source: someone on twitter and discord having gone through the same as well as others I have read about) and he is NOT healed.
We saw pretimeskip Dimitri is excellent at holding up a mask of being fine.

Seeing Rodrigue, his father figure and friend, die for him. Woke him up.
He is not all better. He still barely contains his rage at times and says himself he will always be hearing the voices of the dead. His cptsd and survivors guilt do not go away

But in that scene in the rain. He is finally able to see he can live for himself.
Byleth is *NOT* a therapist, and if that's how you see her I'm sorry for your friends and I'd hate to meet your therapist.
She is a *support* and a *friend.* she did not give up on him

Even when everyone else did.
When he finally sees things clearly, and understands he has "dear allies by his side" he is able to cope better.

And he spends the rest of his life striving to atone for his deeds, which he knew were wrong and *absolutely, with every fiber of his being, hated himself for.* And he is finally able to pursue his dreams of changing Faerghus for the better
Saying people with crests arent inherently better. Implementing a system of democracy, allowing everyone to have a part in government. He improves relations with Duscur and helps the poor and those who have suffered
There is a reason in his ending he is lauded as the Savoir King.
Because he is a good man who strives to help everyone, even at the cost of himself. Who knows he's done wrong, and tries to make things better. He understands if no one forgives him and knows

Things will never be the same. But the point is that he tries.
Mentally ill people *need* someone like Dimitri in media, to see that we *can* have happy endings. That maybe, someone like Byleth, won't give up on us. That we.can be forgiven and try to do better.
If you hate Dimitri solely because he is mentally ill, and the actions caused by it, ignoring everything else about him. *YOU* are the horrible person. This hurts real people who see Dimitri as representation and hear over and over again that we are worthless
And scary, and deserve to die. If you hate Dimitri, just fucking leave us alone???? We arent bothering you. Let us fucking live and love someone, even though they are fictional, it means something. Replace mental illness with another minority and treat them the same
And you'll see backlash and how awful you are.
I am so fucking tired of people demonizing Dimitri and saying he deserves to be put down and is irredeemable.
Just fucking leave us ALONE you abelist peices of shit.

Let us love someone. I dont care if hes fictional, I *KNOW* I'm a loser. I dont have anyone else. Just leave us alone.
