[TW - Abuse] I’ve seen some people, who I’m assuming have insider info, talk about the complicated nature of this particular case. As someone who has been deeply involved in this case for ~1 year or so (from an “advocate/get the authorities to look into this” role), let me make
something very clear: none of those admittedly complex details take away from the fact that Morgan is an abuser & that several adults (all of whom are mandated reporters) were complicit, if not actively engaged, in the cover-up.
I do not condone the bullying. At the same time, I think that sometimes people conflate it with harsh criticism. There is a fine line between holding a person/community accountable and online harassment. While I do think that some comments crossed into the latter, most of the
ones I saw on my TL were the former. There are many individual, communal and structural failures that contributed to the abuse & torment of the survivor. There seems to be this belief that, as advocates, we must only hold the “active” practitioners of violence accountable.
However, as we’ve seen from cases like Nassar and Sandusky, prolonged inaction, silence and complicity play a huge role in upholding a culture of abuse. Different actions call for different responses. Holding somebody like Morgan or Didier accountable will look very different
than, for example, holding an adult bystander who failed to report to DCF accountable. Properly addressing each contributor is the only way to truly change a culture. It’s the only way to de-normalize abusive practices & promote a system that prioritizes the overall health,
happiness & well-being of its participants over everything else.

I still have more to say but I need to take some time to collect my thoughts. Thank you for all who’ve read this so far. My DMs are always open to anyone who wants to talk more. #SkatingSurvivors ♥️
(TW: Sexual Abuse) TBH some of the comments that I mentioned at the beginning of this thread have given me major JC flashbacks. For those of you who aren’t aware, quite a few members of the skating community who originally defended JC and condemned SafeSport did so with a very
limited amount of insider information (i.e. they knew the identity of one survivor and the third-party reporter but did not know anything about the actual allegations, the length of the investigation, the number of survivors & witnesses, etc.) They also bought into some very
destructive lies & false narratives shared by people like Dalilah. When people with more knowledge of the case privately reached out to some of those skaters & explained more about the case, they admitted that they weren’t aware of everything & some even apologized for their
actions (I have a lot of opinions on that situation that I won’t go into here). I don’t know how much information that these folks have about the Cipres case. However, the impression that I’m getting from some of their tweets (specifically, the tweets defending John & Silvia) is
that they may be missing some key pieces of information & evidence. If my hunch is correct, I do hope that they’re open to having a conversation & potentially reconsidering their positions in light of more evidence. As I said earlier, my DMs are always open.
A person can, unknowingly, be complicit in abuse culture. They can be complicit without malice or ill intent. I’m boosting this tweet again because these media highlight how complicity, at multiple levels, create a dangerous environment. #SkatingSurvivors https://twitter.com/LiftLoopLunge/status/1275995838007869441?s=20
