Thread: John Brown ended 2019 with 72 rec / 1,060 yds / 6 TDs as the Bills top target, I can’t wait to see what he does drawing the opposing teams 2nd best corners. I went through all of his targets, these are my favorites
Beats press off the line, sells the vertical route and separates last second to extend and make the catch. Draws a facemask to add another 15 yds
Speed kills in man coverage. The Jets didn't have anyone who could hang with Brown and the Bills knew it
When you don’t have the speed at corner to cover Brown you have to overcompensate to prevent the deep ball – this will leave you exposed on these comeback routes; easy 14 yards
The Jets had no answer for Brown, this time he’s going against Roberts who actually plays the double move well but never turns around to play the ball. Brown makes the adjustment & the rest is history. Game winner
Allen misses this throw badly. But it’s a good example of how to get creative with Brown's speed. Brown is working out of the slot, the play is designed to get the safety to bite on the slant route. Once that happens, the corner has no prayer of staying with Brown up the seam
Brown is so much crisper in his route running than I expected. He realizes that the corner is working with inside leverage so when he gets to the top of his route, he sells the out route before planting his foot in the ground. Baker almost falls on the coverage
It’s very subtle on this play but Brown is always working against the corners leverage to keep him guessing. Watch in the 2nd & 3rd angles how he stems inside, then outside to keep the corner guessing before making his way back to the QB
Bottom of your screen: Brown’s route running is so underrated, watch him work to get in the corners blind spot before breaking outside
This is only Brown’s 2nd game on the Bills yet he already had a knack for when the play was breaking down, to making himself available for Allen downfield
“He knows how to adjust his route and make his way back to the quarterback”
Look at Browns burst after shifting across the formation, this route is almost impossible to defend while respecting his speed
Working vs Gilmore this time, gets the inside release needed for the dig route, extends and makes a nice catch. Gilmore and Brown had some good battles all season
I can’t wait to see what this guy does when he’s not going up against the top corners in football. Go route vs Gilmore, wins the hands battle, despite Gilmore arm barring him, he makes a one handed grab and draws the PI
Watch the suddenness he had at the top of his route here to snap away from Logan Ryan and make the grab
I love everything about this play from Brown. Watch the 2nd angle, he burns Butler off the line, and is able to effortlessly flip his hips to adjust to the throw & make a diving grab, so smoothhhh
The corner makes this way too easy for Brown, but I wanted to post this play as another example of how Brown breaks his route a little inside to get the corner in an awkward position & create more separation
Motion shows man coverage, Brown sets up the outside release then wins on a smooth jump cut to the inside…that’s Beasley’s signature move
What a snag. Love how physical he gets with Darby to create separation in the 2nd camera angle
Brown and Allen loved connecting on these underthrow type deep balls. His ball awareness & ability to make his way back to the ball were great. I feel like corners often got caught not looking back for the ball because they were trying to keep up with his speed
Death, taxes, and finding John Brown along the sideline on 3rd & 10+
Before Brown came to the Bills I had the impression that we was a go route specialist, couldn’t have been more wrong. Brown absolutely abuses Greedy Williams on this route. You have got to hit this on 4th down if you’re Allen, he’s wide open
Nice release off the line to spring him free on the quick slant, his speed does the rest
Allen and Brown were so good vs zone coverage all year, this is just one example
Such a great route from Brown on 3rd & 6. The corner has no idea if Brown is headed towards the end zone or running the hitch
Harris bites on the slant & go, Brown makes a diving grab for the 34 yd TD. Hope to see a lot more of this this year 😏
Bottom of your screen. Byron Jones has inside leverage but Brown works to get in his blind spot before breaking it inside
Brown burns the whole defense, Allen has the whole field to work with and turns him around instead of leading him into space. If the offense is going to get better, Allen has to hit these
“That’s a great route by John Brown. You just don’t expect when the leverage is to the outside that the receiver is going to break to the outside.”
Wins on his release, has the awareness to make his way back to the ball, draws the PI, & makes the contested catch
If I were a betting man, I bet you’d be able to count on one finger the amount of times Gilmore & McCourty get burned on the same play for a deep touchdown. Brown gets Gilmore to bite on the double move and takes it 53 yds to the house
Another example of Allen & Brown connecting down field vs zone coverage
One thing Brown needs to work on is his boundary awareness, this is a perfect throw from Allen Brown just doesn’t know where the sidelines are
That’s two plays in this game where Brown wasn’t fully aware of where the sidelines were. Couldn’t disagree more with Booger, this is a dime of a throw, Brown needs to make the catch
