Came across a very interesting Somali Biology paper published in Nature, March 2020. (3/4 authors based are Somali) https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-62645-0
Findings! 1) A total of 9 variants in Somalis, with allele frequency (~14%) unusually high, when compared to other ethnic groups!! Including: UGT1A4 gene, encoding a protein responsible for catalyzing Xenobiotics & endogenic substrates/drugs. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-62645-0
2) VKORC1 (rs61742245) with a very high MAF in Somalis (8%) -> Asp36Tyr linked with high warfarin resistance (Somali specific warfarin dosage regimen?)) https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-62645-0
3) High frequency of HLA alleles, DRB1*03:01 -> which significantly increases Type 1 Diabetes risk & linked with autoimmune hepatitis type-1. (Autoimmune diseases are problem within the community young and old) https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-62645-0
4) HLA allele freq- huge difference, and diversity in Africans populations (not so much difference amongst non-African populations)
