So because now I’m in a good place where I can finally talk about my traumatic experiences of racism during my time as President of @HullUniUnion, after senior members of the Students’ Union tried to silence me, they have now started to erase traces of my work on their website.
This includes articles about the main project I spent ALL of my second term working on and the article summarising my achievements at the end of my two years as President.
I’ve struggled to believe that apologies I’ve received a year later are genuine. Actions like this certainly do not help.
This is just one a reason why people do not speak out - for fear of people later diminishing them and their work.
They know the importance of documenting work and being able to link back to it for future job prospects.
I was told by a senior member of the board that talking about my experience could harm my job prospects and legal action could be taken against me...
It is very disappointing but not surprising that they now trying to make it look like I barely did anything during my time there, particularly during the term where I started to complain about the racism I was experiencing at work.
I will not be silenced ever again.
Previous SU Presidents that came many years before me have their articles & blog posts still up - two of them have just checked now - so there really is NO excuse to delete anything of mine now.
