Basic fact:
Born 2nd March 1997 in Fukuoka
Zodiac: pisces (western) / Ox (Chinese)
Blood type O

He started to dance during 5th year of elementary school and he wanted to become a professional dancer since middle school

During Highschool Ren used to work part-time at a karaoke place. After his shift ended, he went into an unused room and sang

He doesn’t think he was a good student because all he could think about was dancing

Ren is someone highly competitive already since school days.
With his friends he used to play “who can eat the most”. Once he ate 34 plates of Sushi and deserts

After he finished Highschool Ren moved to Tokyo to become a professional dancer

Before PDJP he used to work as a backup dancer for famous artists
Those artists include:
-YamaPi (Tomohisa Yamashita, solo artist & former NEWS member)
- Wanna One (MAMA 2017)
- Pentagon (Japan Tour 2019)

However as much as he loves dancing, being always in the background took a toll on him. He wanted people to see him & his dancing too. So he started to take vocal lessons.

He took part in a few auditions before pdjp but he never passed due his age.

Not only did Ren work as a back dancer, he was also a dance instructors in Tokyo

One of his former students suggested him to join pdjp. His family & friends also supported his decision to join the program.

People often think Ren is from Korea because of his looks.
He states that as one reason why he joined a program which was originally from Korea.

During his audition Ren danced to Seventeen’s Thanks.

Ren is a huge Seventeen fan.
When they had to choose the songs for the position battles he chose seventeen’s highlight.
During the intro guys at Kcon, he knew on the spot that the first song was seventeen’s hit.

Because of the negative comments regarding the low level of the Japanese trainees & his background as a dance instructor, Ren felt responsible to help everyone with their dancing during pdjp.

For his class evaluation he teamed up with Ohira Shosei & Yamada Satoshi as UN Backers. All three had experience as back dancers.
They performed GOT7’s My swagger

Both during class evaluation & re-evaluation Ren got grade A which made him eligible to become the center of the pdjp theme song ツカメ it’s coming

Because of his skills and his popularity among the trainees he was chosen as the center for ツカメ
A lot of people later commented that it was his dancing as the center made them watch pdjp

The position battle (Highlight Team 1) marks the only team in which he was both center and leader
In the end his team won but his individual rank was 2nd

In his 1 min PR video for pdjp he showed a freestyle dance because that is his special skill.

Because he placed first in the previous ranking, Ren was allowed to choose his team for the group battle first. However his team was the last ones who got their song for it (3代目 J soul brothers - Raise the flag)

RTF marks the only stage during which Ren wasn’t the center (it was Takumi) but because the song doesn’t have a fixed choreography like the other group battle songs, he worked hard on the stage with his team which made them win.
Again his own rank was the 2nd one.

For the concept battle Ren was placed into the Domino group and screamed when he noticed that he is in same team as Takumi. When Shion entered the room, he jumped like crazy. For next member he hid behind the door to surprise him (it was mame)

For the box challenge he teamed up with Junki. It took him less than 20 secs to guess that an octopus is inside

Because after the 2nd elimination 10 people were still in the domino team instead of 7, they had to vote who will stay.
Ren placed 1st in this vote & became fixed center for the song

For the concept battle his 2nd place “curse” continued. Both Domino & himself placed 2nd.
(Winner Song was kunchikita & Shion places first in the team)

Ren’s fandom is called 川尻家 (Kawashirika) or Kawashiri fam in English since pdjp times & they were powerful from they start. He always won the mystar events because of their support (besides those events not having any real effect on pdjp)

Similar to his position in JO1 now, Ren was also the performance leader of the Young team for the final.

In the forming of JO1 he placed 2nd two times again:
First for the final ranking & then for the leader vote.
However because of his background he is the performance leader of JO1.

During pdjp his grey hair became iconic so everyone was surprised (including) that Sukai noticed that they looked slightly blue during the class evaluation

While it was not that obvious during pdjp, Sukai and Ren were close besides never being in the same teams.
It was started by the fans to call them チベスナ兄弟 (Tibet fox bros) because both look like Tibet foxes

A very popular Ren ship is w川、川川コンビ or RenKumi.
Ren and Takumi were close since the beginning of pdjp. Takumi admired ren’s skills & learned a lot from him. Meanwhile Ren admires Takumi’s visuals and talents

For the Fan-Name Ren voted for the name 1der (wonder) because he liked the meaning to give wonder to the people and the sound of the word

Besides not being the center of JO1 and that Mame has also a background as a dancer, Ren takes the center position in the dance breaks for Mugendai & la pa pa Pam

Besides his popularity Ren feared the whole time that he wouldn’t make it into the final line up and prepared himself mentally for this.

After the final he thanked his mother who raised him & his 3 brothers alone

Ren admires Michael Jackson very much

Because he likes Michael Jackson so much, he started to wear white socks and likes to show them off. Thus, he cuts his pants shorter so that the socks are visible

Ren has even a separate drawer for his white socks but when Takumi gifted him a new pair, he had to make room for them in another one

His members colour is blue.
During the fan vote silver also placed high but due technically difficulties this colour was excluded

The kanji for his name Ren 蓮 means lotus. That’s why his catchphrase for the pdjp final was “please let me be the blooming lotus blossom in your pond”

In a Magazine Interview he explains the neaning of his name as
“My parents gave me the name with the wish that like a lotus flower which can bloom a beautiful blossom in dirt or a swamp I can become a person who can produce a (good) results even in hard situations”

Another popular ship especially in the early days of pdjp was Ren & Shosei 蓮祥 or RenSei in in the I-fandom.
They were in the same team for the class evaluation and in the position battle.
Shosei even cried because Ren didn’t place 1st in the position battle

If we talk about members he is close with right now, you have to mention Junki.
Both mentioned each other as the members they are the closest in a recent interview

A lot of Ren’s personal fashion items are from fast fashion brands like Uniqlo or GU.
Keigo admires his ability to look stylish in cheap clothes

During stay at home time Ren went to sho’s room and ended up talking to him, Takumi & Mame until morning

Also, he started to play the piano recently. He can’t play any songs on it because he wants to learn how to write songs

Also, he has an interest in remaking old fashion items.
He showed off one remade coat during JO1’s appearance at Virtual runaway

Another hobby of him: gaming.
He loves Pokemon & his favourite Pokemon is Ditto/メタモン
He owns a plushie & a shirt of that Pokemon

Speaking of games, Ren loves them but hates to loose them.
He even starts games for the sake of winning them

Because there are 11 members, one member gets a solo room when they are in a hotel. But Ren didn’t like that so he spin in a circle to choose another member who gets the solo room

Ren recently bought a small table for his bathtub so that he can eat while taking a bath

Ren is very particular about his good choices. There is a long list of food he dislikes.
The list includes for example: milk, eggs, pumpkin, matcha, cream

However one of his favourite food is french toast...
You need eggs & milk to make that

Ren’s favourite foods are chocolate & fruits

Apparently Ren is a good cook.
Ruki claimed that he doesn’t want to loose to him & Junki in cooking when he started to learn it.
During at home time Ren tried to make more difficult dishes

That’s mainly because the fans (& Sukai) think that he looks like one
That’s why you often see people use the fox emoji when they talk about him

Ren is not good with any bf-like fan service. When he had to make a “confession” for asakatsu & a radio interview he struggled hard

Other food he likes:
The hamburger that his mom makes. He likes the soft texture and the rich taste of it

Ren is weak with spicy food. He couldn’t eat the spicy dish from the batsu-game at Kcon & eating kimchi-don made him sweat a lot

Because is member colour is blue, he made Blueberry Jam for the jam challenge.
However blueberry jam looks rather reddish/purplish

Ren often plays trump cards with Mame.

When Ren shared a hotel room with Takumi, Takumi build a pillow wall between them

For Shosei’s birthday Ren shared a video he secretly took of him

Shion simply calls Ren “silver haired dancer”

Besides never being in the same team before young, Ren was one of the members Ruki talked to before the forming of the group.
They share friends

For Keigo Ren is like an older brother who teaches him a lot

Syoya and Ren’s ship name is called Zootopia because of their emojis ( & )

Junki who was inexperienced in dance before wants to challenge ren’s (unofficial) position as a main dancer. Likewise Ren would like to challenge junki’s main vocal position

Ren is one of the few people (among Jams & his family members) who can easily break through Sukai’s poker face and make him go all smiley.

Because he think he lags as a dancer, Sho relies on Ren for their dance practises and asks him for advice regarding dancing.

For the home challenges Ren made soap with flowers

Ren has the habit of watching his food inside the microwave. He always goes veeeeery close and watches the inside of the microwave.

Another skill of Ren is that he can sleep everywhere.
There is a lot of footage of him sleeping on the floor during pdjp. He doesn’t even need a pillow

Ren likes to carry a water bottle with him everywhere. He can even use it as his pillow while sleeping

While everyone’s first impression of Ren was a cool one, he is actually a soft & cute person.
His aura changes when he goes on stage

He thinks of himself as a small presence off stage but as a king on stage.
This is part of his gap which a lot people like about him

Besides claiming he wasn’t a good student, the members voted him as the smartest member of JO1.
Reasons:
- his good memory
- he is a fast learner
- good at reading people
- his strength in games

Speaking of games, he often plays Smash brothers with the members in his room (mainly Junki, Keigo, Mame)

People say he writes just like he speaks.
In his PMs or other updates, he mainly uses hiragana and only a few kanji which is considered child-like by some.

When he was a kid Ren promised 5 girls that he would marry them

Recently Ren eats fruits granola for breakfast but one time he ordered too much, so he gave some to Takumi

For a summer date, Ren wants to go to a cafe & eat some ice cream.

Besides knowing the nature of program pdjp, each departure hurt Ren

At first Ren thought Running was a love song. But while re-reading the lyrics he realised it’s a song for JAM.

He drinks Kagome’s mango salad juice every day

When asked which member he wants to date he either answers Ruki or Takumi (especially if Takumi was a girl)
At Kcon however he answered that he would date himself

Nicknames you can use for him:
Ren, Ren-kun, Ren-Chan, Renren

A country he wants to travel to: Italy
He wants to learn how to make carbonara with Junki

Ren’s charm point is his smile.
He might look scary/cool when he’s not smiling but people will tell him he’s cute when he smiles

According to Junki Ren’s room smells like freshly washed laundry.

Ren used to hate his small eyes when he was younger but thanks to the everyone’s love for his fix like appearance he grew to like them

If Ren had to choose a favourite song from protostar it’s Mugendai. His reason is that the choreography was made by a famous choreographer.

Ren’s most memorable stage was “young” because it was the last one and he had to put all into it.

At the Virtual Runaway event Ren introduced himself as JO1’s dancing machine.
Sho, however, called him JO1’s dancing robot later

For the member whose impression changed the most since pdjp Ren chose both Shion & Syoya.
Shion is more serious than his image. Syoya meanwhile seems shy at first, but is actually weird
