there was this hindi film called & #39;ardh satya& #39; made in 1983, directed by govind nihalani who won many awards.. this film too has a south indian villain called & #39;rama shetty& #39; who is so bad that the hero, who& #39;s an honest cop,
identifies him as the cause of all things going wrong in mumbai, including in his own personal life, and chokes shetty to death in the climax.. and you& #39;d think the shiv sena made the film.. but nihalani was considered a part of the & #39;progressive& #39; art cinema movement in india. heh.
and the very popular & #39;padosan& #39;.. the south indian is lampooned so much in the film.. the & #39;hero& #39;, & #39;heroine& #39; and other characters make so much fun of him--the heroine asks whether he& #39;s a man or not etc in one scene..
provoking him to fight against the hero, who says & #39;is idli se kaam nahi chalega, koi paratha laaieye, paratha& #39;.. the heroine asks her south indian suitor, whether he& #39;s a hindu or not.. that sums up what the south indian is, actually..
