there was this hindi film called 'ardh satya' made in 1983, directed by govind nihalani who won many awards.. this film too has a south indian villain called 'rama shetty' who is so bad that the hero, who's an honest cop,
identifies him as the cause of all things going wrong in mumbai, including in his own personal life, and chokes shetty to death in the climax.. and you'd think the shiv sena made the film.. but nihalani was considered a part of the 'progressive' art cinema movement in india. heh.
and the very popular 'padosan'.. the south indian is lampooned so much in the film.. the 'hero', 'heroine' and other characters make so much fun of him--the heroine asks whether he's a man or not etc in one scene..
provoking him to fight against the hero, who says 'is idli se kaam nahi chalega, koi paratha laaieye, paratha'.. the heroine asks her south indian suitor, whether he's a hindu or not.. that sums up what the south indian is, actually..
