treating autistic people like shit for wording things wrong even after we clarify what we meant is..... wrong. autistic people often misinterpret things or we don't get our point across clearly
we might come off as blunt, or use the wrong words, the wrong body language, we struggle to get our points across and if you need clarification it is important to not treat us like shit for something we struggle with daily
of course this is no excuse when an autistic person actually means something harmful, but it is very often the case when we mean something benign that we come off the wrong way. we can't help this.
this is something I struggle with on the daily, benign statements or things I want to say come across the wrong way or I chose the wrong words. autistic people's communication often doesn't align with what we actually want to say and this can cause confusion
this is often why I rant or overexplain things because I feel the need to overexplain myself constantly so people don't get the wrong idea
there is nothing wrong with asking for clarification, either. I want people to ask me to clarify anything they made not understand or might be misinterpreting the wrong way from me. but what's not okay is treating us like shit for it, that's ableism
and continuing to misinterpret us on purpose even after we clarify things is wrong
autism is a neurological disorder that affects my communication so don't get mad at me for having difficulties with communicating
