Tuned into a @lunchclubai fireside chat with @ariellezuck today!

Let me just start with —

She seems like *the* coolest person in any given room & I'd jump at the opp to talk to her (she's a partner at Coatue, skiis & is a real-life DJ...like c'mon guys)

ICYMI thoughts below👇
On Diversity & Inclusion when building something new:

Think of it like a form of debt; we can have financial debt, technical debt, etc. — we can also have D&I debt

So when you're a new co/business, you can't have it all; you're going to have to make some tradeoffs
D&I cont'd

You cannot ignore it (D&I or any other lesser priority), but you reframe it as —

"I'm choosing to target X right now and I *acknowledge* & *choose* to take on this Y debt & I will have to come back and address it later"

& then, you DO need to go back and address it
On regret minimization as a framework —

It would be great to minimize regrets/not dwell, but the point was made:

You've got to keep living your life and doing things

There may be some things you wish you did a better way /differently, but you learn & keep moving forward ➡️

Arielle said she'd get all cozied up for bed, then get flashes of everything she'd ever said, dashing the hope of peaceful beauty sleep (I can 100% relate)😴

The only regret she had was switching to snowboarding from skiing at age 10, which she went on to do for 8 yrs🏂
You have to recognize you can't have it all

"You're not like Hermione Granger with the time-turner that you can just go back" @ariellezuck

Good thing to keep in mind: always forward, never back

p.s. I'm a sucker for HP refs still, sorry not sorry
DID I MENTION SHE'S A DJ?

and an awesome one at that, you should check out her tunes!

She's an electronic DJ who's played sets at Burning Man (!!!) and while she has a record player, she doesn't typically use that for DJing https://twitter.com/ariellezuck/status/1170385449845583872?s=20
I really dig this set & have it playing in the background rn: https://soundcloud.com/ellenride/sets/elle-jerrod-samuels-burning

Everyone loves music & she's v much in-the-know, the topic of ~MUSIC IN THE PANDEMIC ERA~ came about

Virtual zoom music listening & dance parties were all the rage during early pandemic
These dance parties came in all shapes & sizes, but often, a DJ streamed on Twitch while people would have personal Zoom parties concurrently

+ dance circles, people in the "spotlight" & all creative forms of fun💃

Twitch as a platform for music took off 🚀 & is here to stay 🎶
As quarantine went from weeks-on-end to months-on-end, with no definite end date in sight, people are def missing something

No matter how creatively people have revived their (virtual) social life during COVID, there's no sub for irl

Still, DJ streams aren't going anywhere 🎵
Talked about the rise of tech innovation & audio/music connecting people (not only mid-pandemic but always)

@ariellezuck plugged @Mazzeo & @roadtrip_fm — "On it, you can create your own space & seamlessly go in between being in the foreground & background w friends & new people"
