In parts of Bosnia that Serbs occupied, Muslims like me were ordered to wear white armbands to signal to Serbs that we could be killed or raped. 2/

The act of cutting this band from an old Bosnian undershirt evoked pain, but with it, I honor the victims of Bosnian genocide and ALL victims of merciless killings driven by hate, racism and discrimination, here and abroad. They will never have a chance to tell their stories.3/

So, every time that I am asked to speak about  #TheCatINeverNamed, I will wear this white armband to remind America and the world where hate can take us. 4/4
