I’ve noticed there are two types of coronavirus tweets: “people who were in New York City in April” and “people who weren’t in New York City in April.” The urgency/panic from those of us in that first catagory is because we saw a literal nightmare we’ll never forget
In April I’d be on zoom calls with friends trying to explain how serious this was. The trucks of bodies. The nonstop sirens. Got the, “I feel bad for New York, but it’s not like that elsewhere,” schtick multiple times. Reasonable people wouldn’t listen.
Like, Josh used to not really tweet like this. But he’s a “was in New York City in April” person. https://twitter.com/joshuahorowitz/status/1278408603909738496?s=21 https://twitter.com/joshuahorowitz/status/1278408603909738496
Also, I hold no ill will toward those who fled NYC in April. We thought about it, but deemed it too dangerous to Kate’s parents, who we’d be staying with. But a lot of these people have now come back and think it’s party time. I DO have ill will toward them.
We were fortunate we didn’t get it. But in mid April when Cuomo warned “this will be the worst week,” my goal was just “we can’t get sick this week,” because chances were we wouldn’t be able to get treatment. My big hope was “if we get it, please let it be after next week.”
Anyway, my point is it’s ABSOLUTLY BATSHIT that any leader isn’t shutting this all down and making sure this doesn’t spread further. But nope, as @joshuahorowitz tweeted, the president has cycled back to “it will just go away.” I even still see Tenet tweets! Man, fuck ALL this.
Since this thread has picked up steam, I don’t have anything to promote except ... wear a mask!

I hate wearing a mask! It kinda sucks! But if I go out I do it because I’m not selfish and I don’t want to give anyone what I may have and couldn’t live with myself if I did.
