I've noticed this has gotten a lot of traction today, assuming because it's Canada Day, so I'll say it again: It's vital for you to make the effort to learn about your state or providence's Indigenous history. The more you learn the more you can help.

I didn't learn about the Indigenous history in my state just from Anne With An E. I grew up around three reservations, and the blatant racism I heard from the people in my town against these reservations was something I heard throughout my childhood.
I didn't learn about residential schools & the horrors of colonialism until I was 17, & that was only because I transferred high schools & took a course on Indigenous history, art, & culture. It opened my eyes & I realized how much I had been lied to up until that point.
As stated in the first tweet, there's so much more you can know about the people around you, & a good way for you to help is to learn about the people who surround you & find out what you can do to make real change off the internet. I am still trying to educate myself everyday.
I should also point out that the high school I transferred to focused greatly on educating its students on racism, oppression, abuse, & more in all parts of education, & it was an inner city school. You will not learn about Indigenous history from these schools in red counties.
As in, red conservative counties.
But again, real action is done offline & this thread is just to hopefully inspire some people to take the next step to educating themselves.
