This good review by Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove points us to books by @anelsona and @kathsstewart that try to figure out why 65-79% of white evangelicals approve of Trump and his Christian nationalism, while almost none of the most respected evangelical leaders and institutions do. https://twitter.com/wilsonhartgrove/status/1278379461575086082

John Fea has closely followed the loudest boosters of Trump (Franklin Graham, Robert Jeffress, Eric Metaxas, Jerry Falwell Jr.). There just isn't anything there in terms of coherent Christian content. https://twitter.com/JohnFea1/status/1278300318451863552?s=20
Old Testament scholar Peter Enns says there is nothing persuasive about the use of the Old Testament to justify Trump and Christian nationalism. https://twitter.com/peteenns/status/1278388001555570698?s=20
I looked into whether abortion was a good rationale for all of this. No, abortions will still occur, likely at the same rate, if Roe v Wade, is overturned. Medicalized abortion will be impossible to stop.

Many of us have tried to listen to why 65-79% of white evangelicals approve of Trump and have concluded the reasons are misguided at best. The books above in this thread may help us understand how we got here.
