Being an on-air personality in a small market has given me a *small, teeny, tiny* glimpse of what it must be like for celebrities/ any personalities in media/ the spotlight. The entitlement people feel is insane.
Someone called on Monday and when I answered the phone, they blew a whistle to the phone. It scared the crap out of me as I was expecting a person on the other end.
Today, I'm assuming the same person, called and yelled "YOU'RE A PIECE OF SHIT" and then blew the whistle three times and hung up.
I don't share this for pity. I've had worse in my few months in this role. I also know what I signed up for & this isn't something I let affect me. I share it because it just amazes me how cruel people can be because they feel some sort of anonymity behind a phone/the internet.
And I say "what I signed up for," trust that I believe that is bullshit. No position gives anyone the right to harass/abuse/bully anyone. It's crazy how we think it's okay for people to receive shit because they're in the spotlight and we've normalized it.
