THREAD:

An area that sometimes teachers struggle with is how to use a great book to inspire the children to write a great story. (1)
But that& #39;s often because we read the whole book and hope to translate this into a narrative or write something else. (2)
When instead, we want to mine the text to steal and borrow from the author& #39;s techniques and sentence construction. Let& #39;s look at & #39;Wild Boy& #39; by Rob Lloyd Jones. (3)
Let& #39;s read it and study it at a word level thinking about audience and purpose. (4)
What do we notice? (5)
Now let& #39;s mine it for authorial technique, sentence construction and style and teach some of the ideas.(6)
Let& #39;s pick it apart and rebuild withe class, learning some of the techniques and structures. (7)
There& #39;s loads in here to look at. (8)
(9)
We are still only on page 1 (10)
I think I& #39;ve planned at least a weeks worth. (11)
I nicked this one from @MrTRoach (12)
Then we can get the children to have a go at writing an section that introduces a mysterious character using the same techniques! And in the rest of the prologue there& #39;s dialogue, character descriptions and load more that could be studied. (13)
