Progressive candidate for State Senate District 38 @Elijah4Senate is being shut down by Justin Sweet ( @sweetforny) who believes he’s entitled to appear on the ballot in November because he “won” the majority of votes cast on Primary Day.

Here’s why he’s wrong. 1/7
Justin Sweet received much of his support from Rockland’s Bloc Vote, largely responsible for defunding the East Ramapo School District in favor of parochial schools only open to a very specific community. In Bloc areas Sweet received > 99% of the vote. 2/7
Elijah Reichlin-Melnick, however, maintained a strong lead in non-Bloc areas and won EVERY TOWN IN THE DISTRICT outside or Ramapo where the Bloc largely resides, including Justin’s own current constituency of Clarkstown. 3/7
It is also worth noting that Sweet ran a weak campaign, with virtually no policy positions posted until the eve of the debate where he performed poorly and dodged the question of whether he’d appoint a monitor with veto power to prevent further manipulation of the ERCSD. 4/7
Given the voting habits of Bloc voters, most of Justin’s support likely came in on Election Day (~6,000). At least 13,000 absentee ballots came in following the election, likely from non-Bloc areas where Elijah blew Justin out of the water. 4/7
Justin Sweet now wants to make sure that those ballots aren’t counted or even seen because he knows he’ll lose.

This is voter disenfranchisement, plain and simple.

We wouldn’t tolerate it if we saw this happening anywhere else, we shouldn’t tolerate it in our own backyard. 5/7
We succeeded in erasing the two-timing tricks of the former IDC in Albany and in Washington, we can not afford to create another one in Albany this term.

Sweet has made it clear that he does not care.

Twitter, do your thing. 7/7
