My thoughts on Canada Day & how it has changed for me.

First, a very Happy Canada day to all Canadians!!! 🇨🇦

This was my favourite day of the year. Every year I would dress up, join parades, attend parties & BBQ’s. I loved Canada Day more than my own birthday & Christmas.
As I have grown older & gained a better understanding of how our country operates I must say this day has lost much of its lustre

I know Canada is a beautiful & friendly country, and although we have some dark spots in our history we have many good spots as well, and good people
It’s a double edged sword for me. Being proud of the goodness of Canada, our history & military, our willingness to help others, our willingness to stand up for what is right.

I just no longer believe we (our government) stands up for what is right anymore.
Our government divides us, uses racism as a weapon (which is systemic racism in itself), they bought the media, they are proven corrupt & dishonest.

They talk of Black lives matter but fund abortion in Africa, they talk of LGBTQ rights but fund countries who kill LGBTQ folks.
Our Prime Minister jumps on every woke bandwagon of the week while actually solving nothing of substance in our own country. Giving billions away as Canadians suffer & go without clean water.

He mocks indigenous communities with mercury poisoning ie. #ThankYouForYourDonation
He wore blackface so many times he cannot even remember (or admit) to how many times.

They divide us by gender, race, religion, region & province, while saying “Diversity is our strength”.

But they only mean skin color because diversity of thought is not welcome.
Every major issue in Canada eventually leads to accusations of racism from the government, politicians & media. Any opposition is eventually deemed racist, from the election to Covid & everything in between. Even climate change now.
Our rights & privileges are slowly diminished, from speech to public assembly to firearms. The days of reasonable debate are over. Now the mob shouts you down

And those in agreement with the government happily cheer this on, not realizing it’s their rights & privileges as well
Then there is the problem within confederation, the West being under represented. Our votes don’t matter, this is a terrible feeling.

Having people over 3000 kms away with completely different morals & values determining the survival of Western communities is disheartening.
No, the government doesn’t dictate oil prices. But they do control if resource projects are built or not.

Or if protesters are allowed to illegally protest to the point companies & investors leave like TransCanada & Teck Frontier mine did.
The add the carbon tax

A tax never fully explained, with a government erasing climate data & increasing the tax during a pandemic BEFORE our 2018 GHG emissions were released.

Our emissions increased by 16 megatons in 2018, showing the tax doesn’t work. So they increased it.
So today is a tough day. On one side my complete love of Canada & on the other my frustration for what it has become.

It’s hard for me to believe that the majority of our country doesn’t share the same Canadian values & morals that I do.
How some people in the East (not all, but enough) think dishonesty, corruption, racism (blackface), sexual assault (groping) is ok & that those values should represent Canada & should be our PM is beyond me.

I can’t image anyone thinking any of that is ok, but they do.
So in conclusion, be happy & celebrate. This is only my heartfelt opinion. You can agree or disagree. That’s ok.

But as someone who looked forward to Canada Day & held it above all other days I just no longer do.

I hope one day we correct all this.

Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦
