battle for love — a thread

Lan XiChen is brought up in a military family. He’s a soldier born and bred. Rules are the only thing he knows. He is not allowed anywhere near the arts thanks to his Uncle.

Meng Yao has spent his entire childhood training in the opera run by his adopted father. He is a dan singer and sings only female roles. The only reason why he is treated well is because he is the only singer whose shows manage to sell tickets. In fact the public love him so +

much that the shows he performs in always sell out very quickly. Jin Guangshan constantly reminds his adopted son not to let the fame get to his head.

On the night of the debut of A-Yao’s new show, the Lans have been invited to the Golden Carp Tower theatre. They are given the +

best seat in the house and LXC falls immediately in love with the opera singer. It is his dainty little steps and his beautiful eyes that reel the soldier in. After the show, LXC finds his way to the back stage area. Everyone is surprised by the young master’s presence and +

ask him who he’s looking for. He asks for the star of the show and they show him into the back room where Meng Yao is still about to get undressed. The young opera star’s eyes flash at the soldier who dared to disturb him. “What are you doing here?” Meng Yao asks and +

all LXC can do is to stare at him.

Up close like this he is even more beautiful with his headdress on and full makeup sporting a pale face and red, crimson lips that looked so kissable. He blushes at the very thought and Meng Yao notices it. He waves his helpers away as he +

approaches the soldier. “I’d appreciate if you didn’t just stand there and blush like a schoolboy. Perhaps offer me your name at least?”

“Lan XiChen,” he says holding out his hand.

Meng Yao slips his hand into soldier’s hands, “One of the Lan boys,” he replies with an +

interested smile. The Lans are one of the most well known families in the area and Meng Yao knows he would do well to get on their good side and perhaps form a friendship with this man.

“Why don’t you wait for me, I would like to speak with you later.”

LXC nods and goes out +

to wait for the opera singer.

It’s almost as if Meng Yao is trying to impress him, with the way he dresses in their house colours and LXC cannot help but to stare for the opera singer without his makeup is just as stunning. He possessed that subtle beauty that stood out from

the rest of the crowd of people.

“Dinner? I’m starving,” Meng Yao tells him and LXC follows after him.

The soldier finds himself at a small corner shop lit by kerosene lamps and full of patrons. A side of the city that he never would have thought existed. He takes in the+

sights sounds and smells of this place.

Over dinner, they talk and somehow end up pouring their hearts out to each other talking late into the night under the influence of alcohol. Meng Yao finds it funny how the soldier’s tolerance for alcohol is so low. He feels rather +

responsible for LXC and decides to take him back home. But the soldier is heavy and Meng Yao is tiny, he wouldn’t be able to lug the man all the way back to his mansion. So he flags down a taxi and after a bit of a struggle, manages to get LXC into the cab.

On the way to the +

Lan Mansion, LXC ends up falling asleep on Meng Yao’s shoulder and and the opera singer dared not move an inch. When they pull up in the driveway of the mansion, the servants come out to get LXC into the house and Meng Yao is given a disapproving look by Lan QiRen.

The adventures of LXC and Meng Yao continue over the course of a couple of months. LXC makes sure not to drink so much. He attends as many of Meng Yao’s plays as possible and just when things are starting to get serious, the Wen Army decides to attack.

Knowing that he has to go off to defend his country, LXC makes a promise to Meng Yao that he will return. While the opera singer promises to wait for him to come home from the war.
