Doda, believed to be named after a migrant from Multan!!
.
.
A long time ago, the area that comprises the Doda district of today used to be two separate kingdoms, namely Kishtwar and Bhadarwah.
In Certain scripts put Kishtwar's existence to as far back as 200 BC when a Buddhist monk named Nagsena had converted the local King Milinda to Buddhism. An ancient king of Kishtwar had invited a utensil maker from Multan, a man named Deeda, to set his shop here.
Over time the place came to be known by a distorted version of his name- Doda. Bhaderwah had been ruled by Amar Singh from 1886 until his death in 1911. His son Hari Singh ascended the throne of Jammu and Kashmir in 1925.
Bhaderwah was attached as a tehsil to the Udhampur district in 1931. After Udhampur was trifurcated in 1948 and the district of Doda was carved out of it, and Bhadarwah was attached to it as a tehsil.
