reminder that ariana grande has confirmed that they used heavy makeup on her to make her extra pale when acting as cat valentine. she was never truly that pale, it was for victorious and victorious only. these pictures are from the same era, she's always had a darker complexion
miss me w that blackfishing bullshit that is literally just a result of bad lighting or manipulated pictures. ariana is italian and she tans easily when out in the sun a lot. blackfishing is a horrible thing but ariana does not partake in it, move on from that narrative.
ah and since this picture has been brought into the mix, i’m here to remind you that lighting exists and it washes you out !! also, depending on the time of year and time spent outside, tans exist also

also yes, they applied makeup to her upper body too, in this photo you can see that her legs are darker than her arms and face

a lot of people are asking why they would do that and i have a few different theories: 1. to hollywood, more pale=more childlike which matched cats character. 2. red heads stereotypically have pale skin. 3. they needed a different look than a brunette tan girl like tori and trina
and here’s a family photo where you can see both her parents also have darker complexions, genetically it makes sense that she isn’t super pale, especially when she’s spent time out in the sun
one more quick thing before i go, here’s an “over the years” collage showing that she’s always been a bit tan (she has a pool at her house, you expect her not to go lay by it sometimes??)
and her as a baby, where she clearly got a spray tan !!! 
this is 16 year old me in a photo i did NOT edit at all, i am WHITE mixed with irish, french canadian, german, and a few other european countries. i’ve never in my life gotten a fake tan. lighting !!! does things !!! and so does the sun !!
