Apparently there were zero Covid deaths in MA today - holding at 8,054. That’s great news! The problem is that people are acting like MA is doing so well in all this. We’re told that Texas and Florida are doing terrible jobs, but I looked at some death rates (thread)
Florida (triple the population of MA) with 3,505 deaths and 58 yesterday needs 2 1/2 months to match our count. To match our count at a rate of deaths per million it would take a year and one month to match MA.
Texas (four times the population of MA) with 2,424 deaths and 21 yesterday needs nine months to match our count. To match our count at a rate of deaths per million it would take four years and 4 months to match MA.
Trying to make sense of all this and what good looks like, but moving the goalposts from deaths to asymptomatic transmission while picking “winners and losers” seems incredibly disingenuous.
