As June is almost over I wanted to say happy #PrideMonth2020 to everyone, out or not, who identifies as LGBTQ+ !! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

And now more than ever we must dedicate Pride month to black LGBTQ+ people because their lives are at risk. #BlackLivesMatter

IMPORTANT INFO 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
Marsha P Johnson was a black trans woman who was one of the prominent figures in the Stonewall Uprising & a founding member of the Gay Liberation Front.

Miss Major Griffin-Gracy is a trans woman activist for transgender rights, focusing on women of colour.

She is Executive Director for the Transgender Gender Variant Intersex Justice Project, which aims to help transgender people considered to be disproportionately incarcerated.
Mabel Hampton was a black lesbian activist & philanthropist for both black and lesbian/gay organisations.

At a Pride parade in 1984, she said:

“I would like all my people to be free in this country and all over the world, my gay people and my black people”

James Baldwin was an American novelist, playwright, essayist, poet & activist.

Audre Lorde was a writer, feminist & civil rights activist. She made lasting contributions to feminist theory, critical race studies & queer theory.

”I write for women who...do not have a voice [as] they were so terrified [as] we are taught to respect fear more than ourselves.”
Bayard Rustin was an LGBTQ+ & civil rights activist and key adviser to Martin Luther King Jr.

In 1953, Rustin was jailed & registered as a sex offender for having sex with men. In 2020, this was pardoned & a process for fast-tracking pardons under historical laws was announced.
These are just a few of the important black LGBTQ+ people who made history. It’s so important that we remember their names and celebrate them because without them we wouldn’t be where we are today.
