1/ Building trust:

Once I made a grievous business error. My partners and I had a phone call, and when the issue came up, they cautiously, logically laid out that an error had been made (which was meant to save my ego when the big reveal finally).
2/ Within the first 15 seconds of their "case", I cut them off and said, "Guys... this was 100% me. No one else made this mistake, it was not systemic, it was just me being a complete moron."

Pause.

"Well", said they, "I& #39;m not sure it& #39;s THAT bad..."
3/ They& #39;d geared up for a giant debate against face-saving gymnastics. But I learned long ago that you have to own your shame---hard--- and let the victories be distributed to your team.

Let no one pile your vices onto you... collect them and own them yourself.
