Something to keep in mind when talking COVID-19 and sports. Its potential effect on hearts. Recent study from cardiologists suggest athletes who test + and experience symptoms should rest at least 2 weeks after symptoms resolve & undergo cardiac testing before returning to play.
And that return to play is suggested to be a slow, gradual one up to full speed. So, expecting a player who tests + and has symptoms to be back up to speed "soon" -- especially in a shortened season -- seems unrealistic. (Granted, not all + tests will include symptoms.)
Some who have tested + and experienced symptoms, whether hospitalized or not, have said it takes a long time to feel "right" again. Feeling "right" is a pretty big part of playing high-level sports well. This is one of multiple reasons "they& #39;ll be fine" argument misses the point.
"This particular virus causes more problems with the heart than any other virus so that& #39;s why we& #39;re being particularly careful," Dr. Phelan told CBS Sports. "That& #39;s why we& #39;re being more conservative in terms of our recommendations for return to play." https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/sports-cardiologist-explains-why-athletes-with-covid-19-symptoms-need-cardiac-testing-before-playing/">https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/...
