Something to keep in mind when talking COVID-19 and sports. Its potential effect on hearts. Recent study from cardiologists suggest athletes who test + and experience symptoms should rest at least 2 weeks after symptoms resolve & undergo cardiac testing before returning to play.
And that return to play is suggested to be a slow, gradual one up to full speed. So, expecting a player who tests + and has symptoms to be back up to speed "soon" -- especially in a shortened season -- seems unrealistic. (Granted, not all + tests will include symptoms.)
Some who have tested + and experienced symptoms, whether hospitalized or not, have said it takes a long time to feel "right" again. Feeling "right" is a pretty big part of playing high-level sports well. This is one of multiple reasons "they'll be fine" argument misses the point.
"This particular virus causes more problems with the heart than any other virus so that's why we're being particularly careful," Dr. Phelan told CBS Sports. "That's why we're being more conservative in terms of our recommendations for return to play." https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/sports-cardiologist-explains-why-athletes-with-covid-19-symptoms-need-cardiac-testing-before-playing/
