i feel like this a good time to remind everyone of how disgusting boardman high school’s administration is. this is based on my experiences and those of family members and friends.
a student was told outright that she was not cast as the lead in show because of her skin color. no action was taken against the teacher(s) responsible. she sued and boardman settled out of court to keep it as quiet as possible.
the metal shop teacher told me that i would drop as no girl had ever finished the class because they "couldn't handle it". i completed the course and he gave me a C, justifying it by saying "you should've had the boys make your assignments for you, they're more capable"
i tried to contest my grade as my projects were no different than those made by the other students. the administration told us there was no proof he acted out of sexism and i could handle one bad grade.
while working in the office i noticed time and time again that black students were punished more often and more severely. many white students, including myself, were never reprimanded for the same behaviors.
i also got into several arguments with the secretaries over their racist comments. one instance was mocking black students for wearing wigs. another was calling black people "lazy" and that they "deserved" their situation.
i completely forgot about this incident. during our sex ed curriculum, the teacher taught us abstinence by using me and several of my male peers (14-15 y/o) as examples. she put tape on my arm, then moved it to one male student, back to me, then to the next.
the tape represented me having sex with each person. at the final boy she said that i had “met someone and wanted to settle down” but the tape couldn’t stick. implying that if you have sex before marriage, you cannot form a long lasting relationship.
i attempted to compete in the mr. spartan competition as i felt it was unfair there wasn't a similar event for girls. the administration told me that girls are "too catty", would take it "too seriously", and "couldn't handle a friendly competition"
i threatened to sue stating they were violating title IX. they assured me that they would create a mrs. spartan or something like it. no such event exists to this day.
