Migration is as old as mankind.
The reasons and effects of migration, however, has varied.

My grandfather left home as a child to live with his older cousin in Benin City. My father was born at that house in Igbesamwan before my grandfather built his own house.
I left Benin City for Lagos and subsequently settled in Accra and Lome. My son was born in America and has the option of Ghanaian, Nigerian, American, and Togolese nationalities to choose from. He can even decide to migrate to Manchester as I would normally expect him to.
There are families who will constantly keep moving. There are others who will remain. Migration also affects politics a whole lot. I am not talking about those in America or UK who are against migrants but local African politics. Those who want to migrate don't really participate
Someone mentioned in a comment today that the reason Agberos and thugs are in control of our politics is that they have nowhere else to go. Strangely, we only discovered after he was attacked that MC Oluomo was an American citizen as well. Did he hedge like the rest of us?
Below MC are plenty of people who work for him and would hope to leave too if given the opportunity. It is this hope to leave that has been our greatest problem. The children of our leaders are all in schools abroad and they have homes abroad. We all don't really care.
We're a nation of hypocrites in Nigeria. People in smaller African countries really do care and are more patriotic than we are. It also explains a lot of the xenophobia and Nigerian hate. They know that every Nigerian is trying to escape from Nigeria. They don't want an infection
A lot of people believe "Nigerianness" is contagious. We come to take their women and men then turn them into Nigerians. This is actually far from the truth. The Nigerian who has married a non-Nigerian is most likely never to be ever Nigerian again. "most likely" not always.
Let's call a spade a spade. "Nigerianness" and the concept of Nigeria is really all vibes. There are very few people who will die for Nigeria and those people are currently being paid to do so in the military. Maybe, I now understand why we had military rule for so long.
